In short: BMS Monitor reads the BMS in your lithium battery over Bluetooth and shows what it measures. There's no account or sign-up, and readings never leave your phone unless you turn on station mode (Pro) to watch them from another one. The free version shows ads; Pro removes them.
It connects over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to a BMS (battery management system) that uses the JBD/Xiaoxiang protocol and shows the live status of your LiFePO4 or lithium-ion battery.
While the app is open, the screen stays on, so the phone acting as a station doesn't go to sleep. If you don't need it on, close the app.
BMS Monitor reads JBD (Jiabaida) "Smart BMS" units, the Xiaoxiang family, with Bluetooth: the hardware inside many batteries from Overkill Solar, ECO-WORTHY, Vatrer Power, LIONTRON, Epoch or Datou, and many DIY packs. It is not an official app of any of those brands. Other BMS families use different protocols, and the app can't read them.
Make sure your phone's Bluetooth is on and you're within a few meters of the BMS. The BMS accepts only one connection at a time: if another phone or app is connected to it, close it first. On Android the app also needs the location permission, which the system requires to scan for Bluetooth devices.
Automatically, the next time the battery reaches 100% and stops taking charge for a few minutes. If it had gone nearly empty before, the app counts the amp-hours that went in; otherwise it takes the amp-hours the BMS reports with the pack full. Until then you'll see "health not measured".
Leave one phone next to the battery, with Bluetooth, an internet connection and a charger, and turn on station mode there: it gives you a 6-character code. On another phone, "View remotely" with that code shows the battery live. The station publishes its readings while someone is watching and, when nobody is, one every five minutes.
In Settings → Language (the gear at the top): Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America) or English. The first time, the app follows your phone's language.
No personal data is collected: the app doesn't ask for a name, email, phone number or any kind of account.
Bluetooth: to find and connect to your BMS.Location (Android only): the system requires it to scan for nearby Bluetooth devices. The app doesn't read or store your location.Tracking (iPhone and iPad): Apple's prompt before ads are personalized. The app doesn't ask for camera, microphone, contacts or photos.
The free version shows Google AdMob ads: a banner at the bottom and, on iPhone and iPad, a full-screen ad when the app opens. Consent is asked before any of them is shown: in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, with Google's form; on iPhone and iPad, with Apple's tracking prompt. If you allow it, AdMob may use the device's advertising identifier to personalize and measure ads; if not, ads still show, but not personalized. Either way it receives technical data from the device, such as the IP address.
What you chose in Google's form can be changed in the app, in Settings → "Ad privacy options" (it only appears where that form applies). The tracking permission is changed in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking (iPhone) or in Settings → Google → Ads (Android). Pro has no ads at all.
BMS Monitor Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription (€1.99/month or €14.99/year in Spain; the price for your country and store is shown in the app before you pay) that renews automatically until you cancel it in your Apple or Google Play account. RevenueCat handles the purchase on top of Apple's payment system (iPhone and iPad) or Google Play's (Android); it checks whether you have the subscription but doesn't receive your battery data. To get it back on another device, use "Restore purchases" on the Pro screen.
The app is available in English, Spanish (Spain) and Spanish (Latin America). This page is also available in Spanish.
On iPhone and iPad, Apple's standard license agreement (EULA) applies; on Android, the Google Play Terms of Service.
This app is a technical tool for monitoring batteries and isn't directed at children. It doesn't knowingly collect data from children.
